Session Description

As libraries increasingly move toward a new digital frontier, it would be a shame to leave behind many unique and useful items in obsolete formats, such as record albums, cassette and 8-track tapes, laserdiscs, videotapes and what not.  While many of these cannot be copied or converted for public use, many items can be used on-campus locally or with permission, or contain content that is in the public domain.  This session will cover the basics as to the hardward, software, and processes needed to convert these obsolete formats to a useful structure.  In addition, new cataloging, metadata and linked data concepts can be utilized to enhance the accessibility and retrievability of these items, as well as embding links that can be used by Primo.
