Session Description

Libraries have been in transformation through various IT/IS projects to improve operations and make positive impacts on organizational effectiveness. As a project manager or leader, how do you measure IS project success and provide a great opportunity for organizational learning? How do you communicate project success to stakeholders and abstain their continuing support and trust?

In this session, the presenter will introduce a new theoretical model of IS project success developed through reviewing the IT/IS literature. The model employs three dimensions—project management process, project outcomes, and contextual factors to address IS project success. The theoretical framework emphasizes that project management success alone cannot guarantee project success and project results and contextual factors may also influence the success throughout the lifecycle. The takeaway from this session is that audiences will be able to understand why IS projects succeeded or failed, and how to apply the model to practices and communicate project success with shareholder effectually. The presenter will also share the experience of a post-project evaluation to demonstrate the application of the model to a Voyager merger project. The results indicate that the post-project assessment has created a great opportunity for organizational learning and helped practitioners to manage talents better and improve the chances of IS project success in the future.
