Public Health Leadership to Prevent Child Maltreatment: Successes and Challenges (CO NPLT)

Learning Objectives
This session will introduce the National Peer Learning Team on child maltreatment and how attendees can get involved. Desmond Runyan, MD, DrPH, Executive Director of the Kempe Center for the Prevention and Treatment of Child Abuse and Neglect, will present on the role of public health in preventing child maltreatment and how a public health approach can be successful. His remarks will be followed by a moderated discussion among representatives from state public health agencies to begin considering what work public health organizations are already doing and how additional elements might be incorporated to address the primary prevention of child maltreatment in communities.
