The International Border between Mexico and the United States has always been an area of interest since 1848, both physically and politically. This roundtable discussion will focus on historic cultural and environmental aspects of the borderlands and how international treaties, people, state and federal agencies are involved in working across an international border. Discussion will focus on how the borderlands environment has changed since the 1890s until today when permanent border markers were erected from El Paso, Texas to San Diego, California. What effects has establishing a physical border in open desert and mountainous areas affected wildlife, rivers and the environment? What will construction of even larger physical structures do to the environmental and can there be a compromise for the environment and wildlife along this area before a permanent physical change is seen?
