When you look up your name, use the detail listing to check what days/times you asked to be placed. This is a huge program and we can accommodate necessary changes in day and time now, but may not be able to do so after September 1, 2013 except in emergencies. Session Abstract

This roundtable will discuss the findings and experiences related to curriculum development and oversight by faculty stemming from a university-wide task force convened to redesign an existing shared governance model.

Target Audience

Faculty or administration in higher education that use a shared governance model or are interested in designing or redesigning their existing model.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of the session, the participants will be able to do the following:
1) Revise a shared governance model that fits with their institution's mission, vision and values while maintaining the integrity and rigor of their curriculum.
2) Identify critical curriculum development issues related to shared governance.
3) Develop ways to utilize faculty resoruces effectively while ensuring participation and that their voices are heard.

Session Description

This roundtable discusses findings and experiences from a university's task force that analyzed its existing governance structure. The challenge was to design a model that effectively and efficiently uses faculty resources while insuring that faculty's voices are heard while advancing the institution. The task force first identified faculty functions at the university level and then compared those functions to the college-level committees to determine similarities, differences and overlap. The task force found overlapping oversight bodies and recommended consolidation of some of the committee functions.

This model was designed during the 2012-2013 academic year to be piloted during the 2013-2014 academic year.

The faculty presenters will discuss their experiences with the design and implementation of the model, focusing on curriculum development and approval. Participants will share their experiences and then collectively discuss recommendations.

Efforts are made to try to schedule sessions on the day preferred by the Primary Presenter, though this cannot be guaranteed. Please check your preference.
