This is a huge program and we can accommodate necessary changes in day and time now, but may not be able to do so after September 1, 2013 except in emergencies. A Networked Online Learning Community

Session Abstract

Based on the review of connected learning, the presenter will propose a networked online learning community which will connect public learning sources, personal space, group zones and the community map.

Target Audience

Researchers, graduate students, and practitioners who are interested in topic on connected learning and online learning community.

Learning Outcomes

To build a networked learning community, it is important to establish an environment where learners can conveniently have access to a rich variety of resources (Marion, 2000), and it is necessary to create a non-threatening, relaxing environment for learners to develop a cooperative culture with one another. In this networked community I will propose, adult learners can connect their learning to their surroundings and to the people who share similar interests; adult learners can conveniently access a variety of public resources, and share knowledge with others by reaching out to other people’s personal space.

Session Description

Belenky et al. (1986/1997) identified two types of knowing: separate knowing and connected knowing. Separate knowers know things in an objective, impersonal and detached way (Marion, 2000). Connected knowers know things in a relational approach and build a personal connection with other people and their own surrounding environment in order to understand other’s views (Marrs & Benton, 2008). Marrs and Benton’s (2008) study shows that both types of knowing are related to deep learning and that it is necessary to integrate connected learning into the curriculum. This paper will inform practitioners about how to create a connected learning environment.

Efforts are made to try to schedule sessions on the day preferred by the Primary Presenter, though this cannot be guaranteed. Please check your preference.
