2013 Annual Conference

November 5–8, 2013

Lexington, KY

It is time to review the schedule for the placement of your session in the AAACE Agenda. This is the final draft of the Schedule. When you look up your name, use the detail listing to check what days/times you asked to be placed. This is a huge program and we can accommodate necessary changes in day and time now, but may not be able to do so after September 1, 2013 except in emergencies. Please carefully check your placement and send any requests to Ginger Phillips, AAACE Conference Planner with AAACE Session Change Request in the subject line. We will respond to your email, but it may take us up to a week to do so. Thanks for your help in "fine tuning" this agenda!

Institutional Readiness for Prior Learning Assessment

Thursday, November 7, 2013 at 9:00 AM–9:45 AM EST
TB1
Type of Presentation

Concurrent Session (45 minutes)

Session Abstract

Prior Learning Assessment, a hallmark of adult degree programs, requires the development and maintenance of robust, quality processes. This session showcases institutional “readiness” for determining sound and relevant PLA options.

Target Audience

The session is intended for faculty and administrators in adult higher education programs who are interested in beginning a PLA process or who need to refresh a fledgling program.

Learning Outcomes

Participants will be able to use a self-assessment survey to review their own institution’s readiness for prior learning assessment and to identify strategies to build a new PLA initiative or update and reaffirm an existing one.

Session Description

What do institutions need to know about themselves in order to plan and maintain effective Prior Learning Assessment processes? At last year’s AHEA pre-conference in Las Vegas, participants completed a pilot of the institutional self-assessment survey that will be used in this session. Since that time, the survey has been refined in light of what ACE’s Center for Education Attainment and Innovation has discovered about promoting PLA in three regions of the country. This session will provide foundational information for those who see PLA as both a learning experience and service opportunity for adult learners.

Efforts are made to try to schedule sessions on the day preferred by the Primary Presenter, though this cannot be guaranteed. Please check your preference.
