It is time to review the schedule for the placement of your session in the AAACE Agenda. This is the final draft of the Schedule. When you look up your name, use the detail listing to check what days/times you asked to be placed. This is a huge program and we can accommodate necessary changes in day and time now, but may not be able to do so after September 1, 2013 except in emergencies. Please carefully check your placement and send any requests to Ginger Phillips, AAACE Conference Planner with AAACE Session Change Request in the subject line. Creativity as a Tool to Enhance Adult Learning in Academia: What Works

Session Abstract

The effectiveness of creativity in adult learning will be discussed. Group activities on how creative exercises can be built into the participants’ learning designs will also be included.

Target Audience

Academics, Adult Educators, Graduate Students, Practitioners

Learning Outcomes

After attending this workshop, participants will have:
1. A reference list of research demonstrating how and when creativity improves adult learning.in academic settings
2. A better understanding of what additional research needs to be undertaken in this area.
3. A practical list of ways they can utilize creativity in their own teaching designs.

Session Description

Adult learners make sense of their worlds in multiple ways (Erikson, 2007; Gardner, 2006; Lindeman, 1926). One of these ways is by making meaning through artistic or creative forms of expression. Building artistic or creative methods into curriculum design can engage this alternative way of knowing for adults and make the learning endeavor more personally relevant and memorable. A discussion of the research on the effectiveness of using creative expression within adult learning in higher education will be discussed. Examples of successful use of creativity in adult education forums will be provided. Group activities to socially construct meaningful ways to build creative expression into participants’ learning designs will be included.

Efforts are made to try to schedule sessions on the day preferred by the Primary Presenter, though this cannot be guaranteed. Please check your preference.
