2013 Annual Conference

November 5–8, 2013

Lexington, KY

It is time to review the schedule for the placement of your session in the AAACE Agenda. This is the final draft of the Schedule. When you look up your name, use the detail listing to check what days/times you asked to be placed. This is a huge program and we can accommodate necessary changes in day and time now, but may not be able to do so after September 1, 2013 except in emergencies. Please carefully check your placement and send any requests to Ginger Phillips, AAACE Conference Planner with AAACE Session Change Request in the subject line. We will respond to your email, but it may take us up to a week to do so. Thanks for your help in "fine tuning" this agenda!

Wednesday, November 6, 2013 at 1:30 PM–2:30 PM EST
TB6
Type of Presentation

Workshop (60-75 minutes)

Session Abstract

Often staff in the not-for-profit world have limited opportunities to access university based education services. This national training program, created in partnership with Temple University, provides a professional development alternative.

Target Audience

Supervisors or other decision makers who are involved in establishing professional development opportunities for workers in the area of Strengths-based Family Worker. As these programs are appropriate for front line family workers and for those involved in grant writing and reporting for agencies, staff in these positions would also benefit from attending this session. .

Learning Outcomes

Understand the struture of community alternatives for professional devopment. Be introduced to the underlying principles associated with the SFW credentialling program. Understand how this training program is evaluated for effectiveness.

Session Description

As all agencies strive to provide the best support possible, to ultimately help move those they serve toward specific goals or to self sufficiency, it is necessary for front line staff to have up to date knowledge and practices that improve their work. The community based and university linked training program that will be presented is an examples of how professional development can help agencies improve. This training program, because of its structure, includes workers from many different agencies in the classroom sessions, so the participants can create a "learning community" framework that has proven to have positive impact on community support systems.

Efforts are made to try to schedule sessions on the day preferred by the Primary Presenter, though this cannot be guaranteed. Please check your preference.
