2013 Annual Conference

November 5–8, 2013

Lexington, KY

It is time to review the schedule for the placement of your session in the AAACE Agenda. This is the final draft of the Schedule. When you look up your name, use the detail listing to check what days/times you asked to be placed. This is a huge program and we can accommodate necessary changes in day and time now, but may not be able to do so after September 1, 2013 except in emergencies. Please carefully check your placement and send any requests to Ginger Phillips, AAACE Conference Planner with AAACE Session Change Request in the subject line. We will respond to your email, but it may take us up to a week to do so. Thanks for your help in "fine tuning" this agenda!

Session Abstract

Findings from a qualitative study conducted on the learning needs of surgeons who provide clinical instruction to their peers in simulated surgical environments will be reported.

Target Audience

Professional education specialists, program managers, training managers, healthcare professionals, clinical educationalists, adult educators

Learning Outcomes

Learners will understand the learning and professional development needs of clinicians responsible for teaching their peers in simulated surgical environments. Learners will consider recommendations to enhance the teaching effectiveness of surgeon faculty and be prepared to apply them to a variety of professional development settings.

Session Description

This study examined the learning needs of physicians that are highly skilled in surgical specialty techniques and are responsible for teaching these techniques to their peers. Through a case based qualitative analysis, their suggestions for enhancing their teaching skills were analyzed. The results of this study can provide recommendations to adult educators for faculty development programs where highly skilled clinical faculty have little to no formal teaching instruction.
