Workshop Description

HRC's Welcoming Schools program is the nation's premier professional development program providing training and resources to elementary school educators to welcome diverse families, create LGBTQ and gender-inclusive schools, prevent bias-based bullying, and support transgender and non-binary students. In this session you will have the opportunity to learn more about the Welcoming Schools program and how to bring it to your school/school district. Additionally, you will have an interactive, first-hand experience with two of Welcoming Schools most popular professional development modules—Creating Gender-Inclusive Schools and Supporting Transgender and Non-binary Students—which include strategies, videos, and resources to better support all your students!

Tracy Flynn
Presenter Bio

Tracy Flynn has over 25 years of experience in management and leadership positions in local and national health, child welfare, and education institutions. Her expertise includes anti-bias and inclusion, leadership and management training, and engagement. Tracy currently works as an independent consultant, with numerous clients that include Welcoming Schools, an anti-bias/LGBTQ inclusive program for K-6 schools and the All Children All Families project of the Human Rights Campaign Foundation. Tracy also serves on the board for Out in Front, the premier LGBTQA leadership development program in the PNW. She can be reached via her website: www.tracyflynnconsulting.com.

Marissa Rathbone
Presenter Bio

Marissa Rathbone serves as Director of Operations in the Learning and Teaching Division at Washington’s Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI). She provides support and leadership to strengthen statewide implementation of social studies, world languages, the arts, health, physical education, sexual health, and computer science. Her background is in organizational leadership and health education, with an emphasis on educating the Whole Child.
