2013 Annual Conference

November 5–8, 2013

Lexington, KY

It is time to review the schedule for the placement of your session in the AAACE Agenda. This is the final draft of the Schedule. When you look up your name, use the detail listing to check what days/times you asked to be placed. This is a huge program and we can accommodate necessary changes in day and time now, but may not be able to do so after September 1, 2013 except in emergencies. Please carefully check your placement and send any requests to Ginger Phillips, AAACE Conference Planner with AAACE Session Change Request in the subject line. We will respond to your email, but it may take us up to a week to do so. Thanks for your help in "fine tuning" this agenda!

Session Abstract

The objective of this research is to understand what attracts educators to online learning formats and the relationship between personality, teacher effectiveness, and job satisfaction.

Target Audience

Practitioners, professors, and graduate students who are interested in online learning, instructor effectiveness, and student success.

Learning Outcomes

The participants will gain knowledge and understanding about the relationship between personality and online teaching. Participants will have the opportunity to discuss their perspectives and how the presented research could be applied to other settings to help facilitators cultivate change, and recruit and develop effective and satisfied online educators.

Session Description

Globally, post-secondary education is changing. Universities, both public and private, are offering increasing numbers of courses delivered through a variety of electronic methods (virtual mediated instruction). Researchers have long studied the impact of this delivery method on students’ performance and have developed numerous instruments to assess student readiness and potential success in the virtual classroom, yet only limited research has been conducted to assess the personal attributes and personality traits of the instructors teaching in the virtual classroom, beyond assessing their comfort and knowledge of the technology itself. The presentation will address trends in the literature on virtual instruction, and results from an exploratory study on online instructor personalities and dispositions.

Efforts are made to try to schedule sessions on the day preferred by the Primary Presenter, though this cannot be guaranteed. Please check your preference.
