2013 Annual Conference

November 5–8, 2013

Lexington, KY

It is time to review the schedule for the placement of your session in the AAACE Agenda. This is the final draft of the Schedule. When you look up your name, use the detail listing to check what days/times you asked to be placed. This is a huge program and we can accommodate necessary changes in day and time now, but may not be able to do so after September 1, 2013 except in emergencies. Please carefully check your placement and send any requests to Ginger Phillips, AAACE Conference Planner with AAACE Session Change Request in the subject line. We will respond to your email, but it may take us up to a week to do so. Thanks for your help in "fine tuning" this agenda!

Session Abstract

Finding connections between Adult Education and unemployment affecting about 50% of Nigerian young adults is imperative. The presentation focuses on alleviation through interaction between adult education techniques and entrepreneurship education.

Target Audience

Academics, University Education Administrators, Adult Educators, Instructors, Women Issues Administrator, health workers

Learning Outcomes

At the end of the session, the participants will comprehend and be able to discuss the problems of unemployment in the world and in particular in Nigeria. They will also be able to evaluate, compare and categorize the forms of unemployment and relate them to the situations in labour markets across the world and rate it with the Nigerian case. Lastly, through the critique provided, the paper will be improved and can be useful as a new tool for employment drive for young adults not only in Nigeria but the world over.

Session Description

The paper explores the history and socio-economic consequences of graduate unemployment in Nigeria. It posits that graduate unemployment can be adduced to the nature of university education that has failed to prepare graduates adequately to meet the demand of the labour market in line with the contemporary realities. The paper noted with concern that except revolutionary and innovative measures are put in place to address the problem of graduate unemployment and its associated consequences, Nigeria’s future can best be described as bleak and uncertain. It observed that though the government of Nigeria has put in place entrepreneurship education as a panacea to the problem of graduate unemployment, the implementation has much to be desired.
The paper recommends functional entrepreneurship education innovation as the key to a sustainable socio-economic future, employability and social inclusion of the Nigerian youth and consequently a better place for young adults to live.
