Abstract

The Technion Library had a successful transformation project progressing from Aleph to Alma. The goal of this presentation is to share the technical innovative solutions developed by the Library IT team. Our guiding strategies were to always think about the user and how to improve the experience, satisfaction and ease of use as well as to avoid manual maintenance through automation. Several solutions were developed including the Alma chrome browser extension enabling the user to customize Alma leading colours according to one’s taste and needs, to redo and undo actions in MDEditor; copy and paste an entire record in MDEditor, and allow automatic correction of student and employee barcode numbers to enable successful search for patrons. We also created a generic solution to display textbooks and sets from Alma in the library portal, eased user authentication by implementing Shibboleth, and developed an Android app that integrates with Alma to enable the extension of loaned books.
