Mbara Kingsley Ugochukwu

ICT literacy is the ability to access, manage and evaluate technological and digital communication tools to function effectively in an information ridden society. Presently, there is global economic, social and technological changes. Such changes have posed some challenges that have made ICT literacy increasingly important to personal, social and national development. ICT literacy provides direct information to people and builds professional knowledge in organizations. Since development in individual and institutional capabilities are major sources of enhanced productivity, it therefore calls for a broader attention to information communication technology literacy. However, it is perceived that productivity among lecturers in Colleges of Education in Nigeria has not been efficient. This is evidenced in poor researches and publications and the quality of present day products of the colleges. Hence, the need for this study to tailor ICT literacy to improve job performance among lecturers in Colleges of Education in Nigeria. The study used a Discussion Team (DT) made up of 12 lecturers from the School of General Education, Alvan Ikoku Federal College of Education Owerri, Imo State of Nigeria as source of data for the study. They brainstormed in a round table setting and came out with the following that a good number of lecturers do not have access to online materials and other ICT resources, lecturers lack technical training, lack of training for lecturers in computer operation and software use and lack of online communities for research purposes. The DT recommended that lecturers should be provided with ICT training on computer-assisted tutorials, that technology assisted resources like the television, internet, power-point presentations, and smart boards should be made available by authorities.
