Abstract
The Leiden University Library has developed a Chrome Plugin aiming to help its users find and discover content offered by the University Library, as well as being a tool to speed up research and productivity. The name of this plugin is the Leiden Research Assistant. The presentation will cover the Leiden Search Assistant's two main functionalities:
- A search box that allows users to search our Primo / Alma based catalogue without having to navigate to the website first.
- A context functionality that allows users to select text on articles / books being read in the browser, and to search for the selected text with a right-click.
The presentation will further discuss the development of this tool, aspects concerning the time needed to develop the initial idea, how the plugin was tested before its release, and the results achieved, and how other libraries can offer their own plugin using this code via the open-source code Leiden has shared on GitHub.
