Parenting While Trans: Exploring Options and Experiences in Fertility, Pregnancy, and Infant Feeding

Friday, August 10, 2018 at 11:00 AM–12:20 PM PDT
Rm 607
Workshop Description

Becoming a parent is a transformation of identity, not separate from but fully fused with one's gender identity and expression. Learn about options for fertility and family building from a gender inclusive, trans-centered perspective. Topics will include considerations for timing of gender transition in relation to pregnancy; gamete preservation prior to hormonal transition; and options for infant feeding. Psychosocial issues such as intersections of gender identity/expression with parenthood, trans-masculine pregnancy, and trans-feminine motherhood will be discussed. This workshop is appropriate for mental health and medical providers as well as families with youth who are thinking about reproductive options. There will be ample time for discussion and Q&A following the presentation.
