As parents, we quickly learn how to advocate for our trans children, such as within our extended families, schools and camps, extracurricular activities, and medical settings. Sometimes this can lead to opportunities to speak out through the media, in our communities and churches, or in other more public ways. What should we consider before taking this next step? How can we evaluate the pros and cons of using our personal stories to further the cause of equal rights for all trans kids? Can we maintain our child’s privacy while being an activist?
