Career Planning and Development for CE Professionals

Session Description

This session is geared toward beginning professionals and faculty who want to map out a plan for career development. Career planning can help us reduce stress and increase our chances of achieving our goals. The presenters will explore goal setting and career development best practices and provide actionable suggestions for skill development through education/training and developmental experiences. Participants will complete a Career Development Competencies Assessment to obtain a better understanding of where they should begin their career development process. Participants will begin to create a career development plan which includes a personal vision and goals.

Dr. Dianna Rust, Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU)
Brief Bio

DIANNA ZEH RUST, EdD, has more than 20 years of experience in continuing higher education, adult degree programming, teaching, and program coordination. She currently serves as Associate Professor in University College and as Program Coordinator for the Bachelor of University Studies, Bachelor of Science in Liberal Studies, and Professional Studies at Middle Tennessee State University. She teaches first-year experience and career development courses, as well as the senior capstone course in the major. She previously served as Associate Dean, University College and directed the academic outreach and distance learning efforts at MTSU. Her teaching and research interests include: interdisciplinary studies, distance learning, effective instructional and retention strategies, and prior learning assessment. She earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Mass Communication from Middle Tennessee State University and earned her EdD from Tennessee State University.

Dr. Amy Johnson, East Tennessee State University
Brief Bio:

AMY JOHNSON, EdD, has more than 15 years of experience in continuing higher education, adult degree programming, teaching and faculty development, and university first-year experience courses. Dr. Johnson is the director of the Center for Teaching Excellence at East Tennessee State University. In this role, she facilitates and assesses faculty workshops as well as facilitates interdisciplinary faculty learning communities aimed at helping faculty learn best practices for improving student engagement and critical thinking. She is committed to changing adult lives through education and training. Her scholarship has focused on the science of student learning, as well as success factors for adult and non-traditional students. Dr. Johnson serves on the board of directors for the Association of Continuing Higher Education (ACHE). Dr. Johnson earner her BA from the College of William and Mary in Virginia and an MA and EdD from East Tennessee State University.
