Motivation, andragogy, and the online, adult learner

Session Description

In this interactive session, Drs. Parsons and Boozang will examine and discuss strategies and insight as to best practice of establishing a rigorous, successful environment for the online doctoral candidate, including practices of online presence, engagement and affect. Further, they will discuss the pedagogical aspects of motivational theory as it relates to the transition from doctoral student to candidate, and successful presentation and defense of an applied dissertation.

Brief Bio

Brianna Parsons is a Research Coordinator at the University of New England, in the department of Education. In this role, Parsons works as both a faculty member and as administration, providing oversight and direction to doctoral candidates who are conducting research and completing their dissertation, but curriculum design and implementation. Parsons has also worked as an English Instructor for the Maine Community Colleges, as well as an Educational Consultant. In the role of consultant, she fused the need and value of education with the demands of the business environment. She holds an Ed.D in Higher Education Administration from Northeastern University, an MPW from Chatham University and a B.A. from the University of Maine.

Bill Boozang, EdD, Boston College, Concordia University, and University of New England
Brief Bio:

In addition to teaching in the Doctor of Education program at University of New England, Bill Boozang works at the Woods College of Advancing Studies at Boston College, where he coordinates certificate programs and corporate outreach. Having worked in higher education for twenty years, as an instructor of English composition and literature, communications and education, as well as an administrator at both small and large institutions, Bill has interest in creating opportunities for affordable and accessible post-secondary education. Bill also serves as President for the Association for Continuing Higher Education, and formerly on the Board of Governors for Quincy College. Bill earned his Doctor of Education at Northeastern University, where he focused on change management in private colleges.
