ACHE 2018 Concurrent Sessions
Doctoral students use applied research to inform their leadership
Session Description
We present two levels of applied scholarship: The first is our own, which is an ongoing study of the graduates of an Ed.D in Educational Leadership, emphasis on “transformative leadership.” The program structure emphasizes problem-posing, organizational change approaches, and applied research throughout the coursework and dissertation. We present findings from follow up interviews with graduates as they describe the influence of their applied research on their leadership. Graduates report gaining expertise in their research topic, taking actions as positional and informal leaders that reflect that expertise, and inhabiting new roles within their organizations.
