ACHE 2018 Concurrent Sessions
Advocating for Continuing Education During Times of Change
Session Description
Within an increasingly complex higher education market, and given that the population of traditional age college students has flattened or is shrinking throughout the country, adult continuing education is an essential part of any university’s program offerings. Even so, difficult times often mean reorganization, and universities have sought to decrease overhead by decentralizing continuing education and degree completion programs. Unfortunately, this can lead to the neglect of adult students and the programs that serve them. This session will facilitate a discussion about how to advocate for centralized administration of continuing education programs. Sharing strategies can open new avenues for advocacy, so that continuing education grows and more adult students meet their goals and complete their degrees.
