Challenging the Perception that Online Education Cannot Meet the Needs of Underprepared Students In Order to Meet the Challenges of an Equitable Workforce

mardi 9 octobre 2018 à 14:30–15:30 EDT
Portsmouth
Session Description

There exists a confluence in higher education. Student populations are increasingly diverse, including students who begin college underprepared. At the same time, the need for higher education to contribute to a more equitable economy is increasingly imperative. To meet the goals of an equitable workforce, a broader array of institutions will need to embrace underprepared learners, including online educational providers. However, recent research puts into question if online providers can meet the challenges associated with underprepared learners. This session will demonstrate how New England College of Business is expanding upon their historical demographics and creating online pathways for underprepared learners as well as using data from the online framework to create an Evidence-Based Retention Plan. In this session, continuing higher education professionals are encouraged to share their strategies while also learning how methods, such as learning communities and learning analytics, can be optimally leveraged in the online classroom.
