Transgender* Students in Washington's K-12 Public Schools: The Legal Landscape
Workshop Description
Join us as we delve into the legal protections available to transgender* students in K-12 public schools. We'll explore: (1) why legal protections are of critical importance; (2) relevant federal laws, regulations, guidance, and case law; and (3) Washington-specific laws, rules, guidelines, and hot topics (such as pronoun use, athletics participation, restroom/locker room access, and the dispute resolution process) before opening up the floor for your questions.

Presenter Bio
Kasha Roseta is a program supervisor in the Equity and Civil Rights Office at the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI). She works with parents, students, and educators to resolve discrimination complaints, conduct trainings, and monitor Washington school districts for civil rights compliance. Before joining OSPI, Kasha practiced law and taught middle school. She earned her JD from Seattle University, her MPA from the University of Washington, and her BS from Northwestern University.
