Developing Trans Allies in the Workplace

Friday, August 10, 2018 at 11:00 AM–12:20 PM PDT
Rm 611
Workshop Description

The massive emphasis on creating and engaging allies in the workplace has brought tremendous culture change. But when it comes to developing and engaging cisgender allies for people who are trans and gender-expansive, there’s still work to be done. We’ll discuss the different challenges that exist for people who are straight and LGB to becoming trans allies; identify research to make the case for expanded support; learn some of the core competencies of trans allies; brainstorm—and receive—specific workplace-focused behaviors that boost trans inclusion in organizational culture; and find out how to effectively express yourself as a trans ally to open new learning opportunities in your organization. All participants will also receive free copies of PFLAG’s Straight for Equality publication, the guide to being a trans ally.
