Urethral Stricture after Phalloplasty: Incidence, Prevention, and Repair Strategies

Saturday, August 11, 2018 at 11:00 AM–12:20 PM PDT
Rm 611
Workshop Description

Radial forearm free flap phalloplasty is the current standard of care for FTM gender confirmation surgery. This procedure is associated with as high as a 51% rate of urethral stricture, which falls only to 23-35% among the most experienced surgeons. While some modifications have been proposed to combat this high complication rate, it still remains as a major lasting source of morbidity. Patient and physician knowledge regarding the high burden and poor treatment options for urethral stricture after phalloplasty is incomplete, and patient acceptance of this reality is crucial to the honest understanding of the potential complications of this increasingly common but extremely complex surgery.
