Program Summary/Abstract Description
Dual language/immersion (DL/I) programs that have target language outcomes for students have a wide variety of assessment tools to measure proficiency. In North Carolina, the state standards include these student outcomes by gradespan for DL/I programs, and districts have chosen different exams to meet their specific needs for data, including the AAPPL (Assessment of Performance toward Proficiency in Languages), AP (Advanced Placement), IB (International Baccalaureate), SOPA (Student Oral Proficiency Assessment), and STAMP (Standards-Based Measurement of Proficiency) tests. In this session, we will share what’s been learned from analyzing this data and how it informs DL/I program evaluation and improvement, English proficiency and ESL program exit rates, state standards updates and revisions, and student placement in secondary immersion continuation programs.
