Program Summary/Abstract Description

In a culturally responsive, dual language program, social justice plays a key role in day-to-day curriculum for students. The Guiding Principles for Dual Language (Howard et. al., 2018) states that the curriculum must be focused on bilingualism, biliteracy, and sociocultural competence.  In addition, curriculum must promote multiculturalism, linguistic diversity, and equity.

This presentation examines the integration of social justice standards from Teaching Tolerance with integrated bilitieracy units in a two-way immersion program. Participants will be provided with a systematic overview of  how teachers and schools can begin the process of integrating social justice standards on a regular basis.  We will review sample lessons, texts, and resource lists that can be used in practice.

The principal, instructional coaches, and equity chair will present at this session
