Program Summary/Abstract Description

This session will explore the necessary components of an Integrated Biliteracy Approach lesson that reflects best practices in a 50/50 two-way dual immersion program. We will address assessment needs in a biliteracy context while providing an overview of how to plan for instruction. Additionally, we will address challenges that teachers face while teaching to read in the minority language and clear misconceptions about biliteracy. We will provide examples and outcomes from implementation in K-2 classrooms by showing student work samples and assessment results. Participants will have the opportunity to think through the process of planning for instruction and find useful practices to apply in their teaching context. There will be opportunity for questions at the end of the presentation.
