Program Summary/Abstract Description

The Morning message is a fun way of providing students opportunity to practice reading, writing, and any other content meaningfully. Written by or with the teacher, the morning message must be extremely intentional and when well planned, it is a powerful tool for engaging, creating a sense of community and helping students to feel safe to show what they know as well as experiment new possibilities in the second language. Although there are endless ways to build morning messages, they have been great allies in the literacy process by helping students reflect upon the role of the written language, the way words and sentences are constructed, and improve not only in those, but also by being part of the construction of the knowledge in the learning community, at times helping peers move forth, and in other times being helped.
