Program Summary/Abstract Description

The University of Louisiana at Lafayette (ULL) along with a local educational agency (LEA) received a National Professional Development grant to create an English Transformation Center for Sustainable and Scalable Success (ETCS3 ) to be located in the LEA. The LEA was selected because of its large EL population and it's successful, sustained, and internationally recognized one-way immersion programs. One of ETCS3 ’s primary goals is to support the launch, maintenance, and expansion of the first two-way immersion (Spanish/English) pathway in Louisiana by training teachers and administrators in content-based and immersion pedagogy. Performance outcomes include analyzing instruction, linguistic achievement, and student academic achievement. The program also compares the two-way immersion pathway results with a control ESL pathway and a pathway being trained in content-based ESL instruction.  Results of year-one standardized assessments will be presented and discussed with attendees.

This work is funded by a National Professional Development Grant from the Office of English Language Acquisition.
