Strand III: Program Design, Development and Evaluation
"Not Language Specific"
Attendees will be exposed to the unique situation of the Spanish Dual Immersion programs in the State of Utah, as their schools transition from elementary into secondary grades. Presenters will discuss the different challenges in relation to exponential program growth, exposure to target language, and scheduling conflicts, that led to the articulation of a working secondary model created using backwards design.
This presentation will show how the courses developed for this model, work towards the improvement of language proficiency, and successfully prepare immersion students for the Spanish AP exam, which in the State of Utah, is encouraged to be taken at the end of 9thgrade.
