Program Summary/Abstract Description
In order to reach high levels of linguistic ability, immersion education must not be isolated to the elementary grades but rather articulate into and through middle school. Providing students with at least two content courses during each year of middle school helps students continue to deepen their academic development and build higher levels of language proficiency. This session frames the process of middle school immersion curriculum development in one state within the “three Ps” of perspectives, practices, and products and shares applications for programs at any stage of articulation. Content includes sharing the perspectives and overarching goals of the project, the practices and processes for development and implementation of the curricula, and samples of the end-product – integrated Spanish language arts and social studies curricula that include AP themes, world language and Common Core standards, and integrated performance assessments.
