Program Summary/Abstract Description

Georgia's Dual Language Immersion programs are among the most rapidly developing in the Southeastern United States, growing from 6 programs in 2014-2015 school year to over 52 programs in 5 languages for the current school year. The presenter will provide an overview of specific state level efforts underway to support this rapid development, including ongoing efforts to overcome the challenges that come with this rapid expansion.  Programs addressing teacher recruitment, training and retention will be discussed along with how Georgia is leveraging in-state resources and structures to provide support for these programs. The presenter will also provide an overview of how this rapid growth of Dual Language Immersion programs fits into the context of Georgia's overall world langauge and global workforce developments at the state level.
