2013 Annual Conference

November 5–8, 2013

Lexington, KY

It is time to review the schedule for the placement of your session in the AAACE Agenda. This is the final draft of the Schedule. When you look up your name, use the detail listing to check what days/times you asked to be placed. This is a huge program and we can accommodate necessary changes in day and time now, but may not be able to do so after September 1, 2013 except in emergencies. Please carefully check your placement and send any requests to Ginger Phillips, AAACE Conference Planner with AAACE Session Change Request in the subject line. We will respond to your email, but it may take us up to a week to do so. Thanks for your help in "fine tuning" this agenda!

Achieving Optimal Learning Outcomes via Virtual Learning Platforms

Thursday, November 7, 2013 at 4:30 PM–5:45 PM EST
TB5
Type of Presentation

Workshop (60-75 minutes)

Session Abstract

Too often virtual learning platforms are used as a one-way delivery medium, when, in fact, some of the best learning outcomes can be achieved via this environment.

Target Audience

If your organization is moving to "virtual learning" methods but you just don't believe it is effective; if you think that collaboration can only be achieved when people are physically together; if you believe that "higher learning" outcomes cannot be achieved when learners are geographically dispersed - this session is for you! This session will provide you with a non-negotiable checklist of virtual learning standards (along with plenty of real life examples) and methods for ensuring that your virtual classroom deliveries are just as effective - if not moreso! - than on-the-ground classes.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of this session attendees will be able to:
Identify essential keys for virtual learning success from the perspective of the learner, the instructor and the organization itself
Lead a dialogue regarding the efficacy of virtual learning
Identify technical constraints and ways to overcome them so that the learner's focus is on the learning and not on the technology

Session Description

More and more organizations are moving to virtual delivery mediums to safe money and reach a wider audience - but those are not the best reasons for implementing virtual learning. The BEST reasons include: learner accountability and independece, true collaborative learning, better learning outcomes through proper design that allows for learning-implementation-reflection and more learning, global networking and ongoing relationships, and more. For these outcomes to be achieved, great thought and preparation must go in to planning the learning process and design of the individual sessions. This session will enable the attendee to be aware of the critical decisions that will make or break their virtual offerings.

Efforts are made to try to schedule sessions on the day preferred by the Primary Presenter, though this cannot be guaranteed. Please check your preference.
