2013 Annual Conference

November 5–8, 2013

Lexington, KY

It is time to review the schedule for the placement of your session in the AAACE Agenda. This is the final draft of the Schedule. When you look up your name, use the detail listing to check what days/times you asked to be placed. This is a huge program and we can accommodate necessary changes in day and time now, but may not be able to do so after September 1, 2013 except in emergencies. Please carefully check your placement and send any requests to Ginger Phillips, AAACE Conference Planner with AAACE Session Change Request in the subject line. We will respond to your email, but it may take us up to a week to do so. Thanks for your help in "fine tuning" this agenda!

Learning Outcomes

This session will inform learners and engage them in discussion about the use of mobile devices to support learning. Particpants will gain content knowledge on how mobile devices are currently used in learning settings including which devices and for what types of learning. Participants will also gain knowledge of the skills and resources required to use a mobile device for learning and to develop learning through mobile devices. Finally, participants will leave with additional knowledge and a plan for further investigation if they are interested in incorporating mobile learning into their offerings.

Session Description

Mobile learning is one of the common phrases we hear when we talk about the near future of distance learning. Many of our learners have a cel phone or some type of hand held device. More options, sized, and uses are presented every day and the cost is decreasing significantly. As well these same learners may have to visit the public library to gain access to the internet. With rising costs, reduced funding, and a greater need for learning opportunities, an investigation of the possibilities for facilitating/supporting learning through mobile applications is essential. This session will share and discuss current uses of mobile devices to support learning, the benefits and challenges of incorporating these devices in our offerings, and the skills required to develop applications for mobile devices. Discussion will focus on current use, and can and/or should we be considering this path within our distance learning options.

Efforts are made to try to schedule sessions on the day preferred by the Primary Presenter, though this cannot be guaranteed. Please check your preference.
