Program Summary/Abstract Description
Transformative practitioners exercise their agency and engage in critical reflection in order to improve the way they teach, enhance interactions with culturally and linguistically diverse students, and create culturally inclusive classrooms. The proposed poster presentation intends to provide a research review on how dual language teachers exercise agency in supporting and advocating for English language learners (ELLs). The objective is to discuss the connection between language teacher agency and fostering culturally responsive teaching in order to better serve ELLs. The presenter aims to explain the importance of teacher agency in supporting ELLs, encourage dual language teachers to engage in professional learning that addresses the needs of diverse learners, and advocate for creating welcoming, supportive, culturally inclusive classroom communities.
