Inventory Using Alma's Shelf Report Tool at Two Libraries

Wednesday, May 1, 2019 at 2:30 PM–3:15 PM EDT
Room 302/303
Session Abstract

This presentation will be about two Connecticut libraries’ experiences using Alma’s Shelf Report tool for inventory. One library is a regional campus library (Stamford Campus) of the University of Connecticut (UConn) with about 60,000 volumes. The other is a private liberal arts campus (Wesleyan University) with about 1 million volumes. We will explain the basics of using Shelf Report, including what categories of information are produced from the report, and the tool’s capabilities and limitations.

UConn Stamford has been using Shelf Report for over one year after weeding consistently over the last several years and wanted to reconcile what is on the shelf with what is in the catalog.

Wesleyan’s inventory pilot project was precipitated by the need for catalog clean-up. The process quickly expanded to include incremental weeding. We will discuss how we incorporated all of these streams into one workflow.

The program will discuss processes, procedures, and what each library has learned.
