Hathi Never Forgets: Generating Holding Reports for HathiTrust in Alma
Session Abstract
Just when things are going great, you are reminded that the annual HathiTrust Holdings Report is due. Your mind goes blank and you start looking for ExLibris’ documentation. Forget all that, this session will help you brainstorm and give you an overview of the entire procedure. HathiTrust requires separate files for serials, single-part monographs and multi-part monographs. Serials are pretty straightforward, but distinguishing single-part monographs from multi-part monographs can be tricky and involve further manual work. Join this session to learn an easier way to identify multi-part titles using normalization rules and indexing holding types. This process involves ALMA bibliographic/holdings normalization rules, indication rules, publishing profiles and configuring search indexes in tandem with MarcEdit. Creating the holding-type index presented in this session can also be utilized for other weeding projects, which would be useful to anyone interested in using ALMA’s data management tools.
