Noteworthy: Making the Most out of Notes in Alma

Wednesday, May 1, 2019 at 4:45 PM–5:30 PM EDT
Room 208/209
Session Abstract

With so many places to park notes in Alma, it is a little like cleaning your house -- you can put everything away in its perfect place designed just for it, or you can shove your stuff in the nearest drawer and declare the job done. With a little knowledge and a few helpful tips, though, you can actually make your notes work for you.

This session will focus on notes fields in Alma -- especially those specific to acquisitions and e-resources management -- and how SOME of them provide the benefit of being functional. Learn how notes in Order Records (POLs), Electronic Collections, Portfolios, and Services can become even more valuable by incorporating a few guidelines.

During our time together, we will explore scenarios for using different types of notes and places where they live. Pro tips, examples of notes used at my institution, and ways to make notes findable in Alma and Alma Analytics will be shared. I will show how to make internal notes beneficial to back office staff from acquisitions through cataloging, and ways to ensure consistency in your public notes.

The intended audience for this session includes beginners and intermediate Alma users. Power Analytics users may not be impressed, but those who have not had a chance to ponder the world of notes will be glad someone else has done it for you and wants to tell you all about it.

The University of St. Thomas (St. Paul, MN) went live with Alma/Primo in mid-2017.
