Making Practical Decisions with Primo Analytics

Friday, May 3, 2019 at 2:30 PM–3:15 PM EDT
Room 212/213
Session Abstract

Primo Analytics offers the possibility of providing clear value in terms of quantitative data about discovery usage. For Loyola University Chicago Libraries, the next step has been to evaluate and apply that data in a practical manner, particularly after our transition to the new Primo UI in January 2018. This presentation will highlight how we began gathering Analytics data, as well as analyses we have created to better understand usage patterns. We will also provide examples of initial changes and projects we have undertaken in order to improve the discovery and public service experiences of our users. Projects include a multi-institution search string evaluation for populating Resource Recommender and understanding usage, making decisions about facet options, and determining fruitful areas for in-person usability testing.  Finally, we will discuss our problems and troubleshooting experiences with Primo Analytics, with the goal of emphasizing potential future improvements and showing how it fits into a larger assessment program.
