To Teach Them, You Must Know Them - Brockton to Cape Verde
Session Abstract
To teach students, you must know them - their lives, their communities, their languages, and their cultures. Close to 60 percent of the Brockton Public Schools' students are Cape Verdean. So Brockton Public Schools worked with Bridgewater State University to organize a educational tour to Cape Verde during April vacation. Teachers visited both urban and rural schools at all levels: primary, secondary, and post secondary. They traveled to the island of Fogo, where many of the students come from. This presentation will review the process and experiences of the teachers involved.
