Session Description

As many libraries aspire to expand their presence beyond library walls, bicycle libraries offer a fun, accessible way to engage community and deliver library services. Sustainable, inviting and creative-bicycle libraries have the potential to expand and transform the public's perception of what a public library looks like, what it can do, and where it can go.
By using an innovative approach to both library programming and service delivery, bicycle libraries have been growing in popularity in many urban centers in North America and have finally found a lane here in the lower mainland. During this session, panelists from four library systems discuss their experiences designing, sourcing and launching their bike libraries, as well as important information for any library contemplating a book bike of their own such as staffing, training, weather and maintenance considerations. The presentation will include examples of the public's reaction, lessons learned, unsolved challenges and how each bike library has been used so far.
