F22: No Villians, Only Partners: A Cooperative Approach to Resource Negotiations

Session Description

In our comic book universe, librarians are the heroes and vendors are the villains. But buying into this narrative of competition, combativeness, and fear does no good. Can libraries re-imagine resource negotiations? Can we write a new story that speaks less about winning and more about creating?

Learn how to take ownership of the negotiation process by re-framing your approach. In this session, attendees will learn 3 key strategies to use in successful negotiations: setting goals, practicing empathy, and thinking creatively.

Approach the negotiating table with an inquisitive mind, the desire to build long term relationships, and centred in core library values. It will result in more confidence and better outcomes for your patrons, your library, and the community.
