F06: BC Public Library Partner - Talking Public Library Governance: Financial oversight and management through the lens of public library values (Part 1)
Session Description
This highly interactive two-part workshop will explore the practices and outcomes of successful financial strategizing, oversight, and management for public libraries through a lens of public library values, such as diversity and inclusivity, equitable access, intellectual freedom, privacy, and reconciliation.
Along with expert speakers, the experiences of library directors and trustees from all sizes and types of libraries from across BC will shape the discussions and activities. Expect to leave the sessions with a renewed commitment to public library values and your role in the financial oversight or management of your public library.
Part 1. Will focus on the sound practices of successful public library financial oversight and management and will include:
• Board and staff roles and responsibilities for the budgeting process, financial reports, and other aspects of role clarity for oversight and management.
• Financial reports; what to expect and what to do with them.
• Budget process; the year in review.
• Your unique role and value as a trustee or as a library director in the financial health of your library.
• Communicating values and an inspiring vision through financial oversight and management.
• Aligning public library values, strategy and operations through the budget.
