Speaker Abstract

StopWaste utilizes a list of Guiding Principles to inform its programmatic and budget development. The goal is to employ an adaptive approach to strategic planning, focusing our efforts where we can achieve the greatest results in support of our mission, stakeholders, and member agencies.  A key Agency guiding principle is to emphasize waste prevention over management of discards, which has resulted in projects and programs that provide funding, support, assistance and coordination with the upstream industry for over a decade. This work has allowed Agency staff to become well versed in the opportunities and barriers that face the reuse and repair industry.  StopWaste has taken several approaches to create, support and increase projects and programs that promote reuse, repair, recovery and redistribution infrastructure in Alameda County. Meri Soll, Senior Program Manager, has been managing the Agency’s programs that address reuse and repair including grant funding programs, policy and pilot projects.  The presentation will highlight grants, stakeholder working groups and partnerships the Agency has been involved with to help support upstream in the region.
