Gender Inclusion in the Workplace

Thursday, August 1, 2019 at 9:40 AM–11:10 AM PDT
Salon C
Workshop Description

Our culture tends to blanket LGBTQ+ inclusion as a single silo. Gender identity is hugely nuanced; most people outside of the community struggle when talking about it. Future leaders and innovators need to see beyond a gender binary. The purpose of this session is to increase visibility and understanding of gender identity. Using a framework of ecological systems theory, we’ll discuss unique challenges and experiences faced by gender variant people in the workplace. The nuance of gender identity, attribution, and expression is critical in developing equity. Discussion includes an overview of gender identity, expression, attribution as it relates to daily practices in an organization. We’ll explore language and assumptions that act as barriers to inclusion for gender variant people.
