This session will present the findings of an ethnography that was conducted in an urban high school SEI classroom during a unit on digital storytelling. Based on students’ counterstories, alternative programming and pathways to graduation are proposed. This research aims to shift the focus from “eliminating deficits” to working with students’ strengths.
