Session Abstract
This interactive workshop will demonstrate tips for creating accessible learning materials and show different methods for adding closed captions to video presentations. The session will include a discussion about accessibility practices and universal design for learning. Resources for creating a variety of accessible digital learning materials will be provided.
Target Audience
Professors of Adult Education, Adult Educators, Trainers, Instructional Designers, and anyone who creates learning materials.

Upon completion of this session learners will be able to:
Describe the basic principles of accessibility for academic content.
Demonstrate how to create a video that includes closed captioning.
Evaluate course materials to determine if they are accessible for individuals with disabilities.
Explain general tips for course and content accessibility and guidelines for designing instruction for diverse learners.
Develop a plan for implementing Universal Design principles into a learning event.
List resources for accessibility, universal design, and digital content creation.
Session Description
Accessibility practices and the rights of learners with disabilities to pursue education is an important issue for every adult educator to consider. Since professors, community educators, and trainers are often creators of course content there is a need to understand how to design learning materials that are accessible to all participants. The purpose of this workshop is to provide training on accessibility practices and to demonstrate techniques for creating instruction that is accessible and inclusive for adult learners with disabilities. This session will be conducted as an interactive workshop. The facilitator will demonstrate tips for creating accessible learning materials and will show different methods for adding closed captions to video presentations. Participants are encouraged to bring their own videos, handouts, presentations, and other learning materials to the session. The workshop will include a discussion about accessibility practices and universal design for learning. Resources for creating a variety of accessible digital learning materials and examples of different materials will be provided.

This session is planned as an interactive, professional development workshop. Participants are encouraged to bring their own electronic devices and learning materials. The workshop will begin with a discussion about accessibliity, universal design, and the practice of creating accessible learning environments. The session will incude a demonstration on methods for creating closed captions using free resources. Resources for developing a variety of accessible learning materials will be provided.
