In academic writing classrooms, teachers often struggle to choose compelling content as a vehicle for learners' writings. Visual analysis, especially of photographs, has proven to be an effective way of allowing learners to distinguish between summary and analysis and also to practice the grammar structures key to argument-driven academic writing.
